HomePhoto Metadata Remover

Private photo cleanup, in your browser

Remove metadata from photos.Keep the moment.

A photo can carry more than the picture: GPS location, camera details, or editing records. Remove supported EXIF and other embedded metadata from JPEG, PNG, and WebP images, then see exactly what the report found.

What cleaning can change

Removing C2PA Content Credentials removes the attached credential and can break its validation. Removing EXIF, IPTC, or XMP may remove creator, rights, or attribution details. Orientation and color profiles may be retained to preserve display.

This tool removes supported embedded metadata. It does not remove pixel-level watermarks, prove that an image is original, or change platform disclosure rules. Use it for files you own or are authorized to edit.

Beyond the pixels

What else could your photo be sharing?

A picture can look ready to post while its file still carries capture details or location data. The scan checks supported metadata categories and gives you a report for that particular image.

GPS location

A geotagged photo may carry latitude and longitude. Check for these details before sending a home listing, a travel photo, or a picture taken somewhere private.

Supported GPS fields

Camera & capture details

EXIF can record the camera model, capture time, and shooting settings. The report shows supported camera metadata detected during the scan.

EXIF and embedded timestamps

Editing & creator records

XMP, IPTC, and comments can contain editing history or creator information. Review your attribution requirements before removing rights-related fields.

XMP, IPTC, text and comments

Generator & provenance tags

Some images carry prompt parameters or C2PA Content Credentials. Supported embedded records can be removed, but pixel-level watermarks remain.

Choose how to clean

Strip the metadata, or rebuild the image?

These modes take different paths to a cleaned file. Start with Strip when keeping the existing encoded image matters, and use Rebuild when you want a freshly encoded output.

Strip metadata

The cleaner edits supported structures in the image container and keeps the encoded image payload where it is safe to do so. This is the direct option for removing supported EXIF, GPS, or text records without intentionally recompressing the picture.

A good starting point: a camera photo you want to share while preserving its existing image data.

Rebuild image

Your browser decodes the image and creates a new file in the same supported format. This changes the file’s bytes and can affect quality, color handling, or file size. The output is scanned again before it becomes available.

Use it deliberately: when a newly encoded image fits your workflow and you can review the resulting photo.

From photo to report

Clean a photo, then check the result.

A download is only part of the job. The report helps you understand what changed before the cleaned copy leaves your device.

01

Choose your photo

Drop a supported image into the workspace or choose one from your device. The file is opened locally in your browser.

02

Pick a cleaning mode

Leave Strip selected to preserve the encoded image where safe, or choose Rebuild and adjust JPEG / WebP quality.

03

Read the report

Review the detected and removed categories. Pay attention to retained display data and any structures marked unverified.

04

Save the cleaned copy

Download the new image and review how it looks. Keep the original separately if you need its camera, location, or creator details.

Images saved for websites and online sharing

Guest and signed-in free images have a 10 MB per-image limit. Pro supports up to 20 MB per image and queues of up to 20 images. PDF, HEIC, RAW, and video files are not supported here; the workspace shows your current allowance before cleaning.

Built around local processing

Your photo stays on your side of the screen.

The browser reads and cleans the image on your device. Image bytes, filenames, and metadata values are not uploaded for processing, so choosing a personal photo does not send that photo to an image-cleaning server.

The service checks usage limits using the selected mode and image size. Signed-in requests include your session token to verify your plan; limited usage records use hashed identifiers. Read the privacy policy for the details.

Know what the result means

A useful report tells you what remains.

Keeping an orientation value can stop a portrait from turning sideways, and a color profile can help preserve display. Those details deserve an explanation rather than a blanket promise that every field has disappeared.

Verified clean

The output scan found no supported targeted metadata, with no retained or unverified categories reported. This describes the fields the cleaner understands; it does not certify every possible data structure or make a claim about the picture’s origin.

Partially verified

Display information was retained or some structures could not be verified. Open the report and read those items before deciding whether to share. If supported targeted metadata is still found in the output, the tool withholds the download.

A few useful answers

Photo metadata remover FAQs

What cleaning changes, what it keeps, and what to check before you share a file.

Open the workspace
How do I remove metadata from a photo online?

Choose a JPEG, PNG, or WebP image and select Strip or Rebuild. Once cleaning finishes, open the report to see what was detected, removed, retained, or left unverified. Download the result after reviewing those details; your original file stays on your device.

Does removing EXIF data also remove GPS location?

GPS coordinates are often stored inside EXIF. This cleaner checks supported location fields and reports GPS separately from other EXIF data, so you can see whether it was removed. Some EXIF orientation information may remain to keep the photo the right way up.

Will the photo lose quality?

Strip mode preserves the encoded image payload when the file can be edited safely, so it does not intentionally recompress the pixels. Rebuild mode decodes and re-encodes the image, which can change its appearance and file size. JPEG and WebP have a quality setting; PNG rebuilding does not use that slider to apply lossy compression.

Can I remove metadata from PDFs, videos, or HEIC files?

This tool supports JPEG/JPG, PNG, and WebP images. It does not currently clean PDF documents, videos, HEIC, or RAW camera files. A visible watermark needs a different editing tool, and editing visible content does not by itself remove embedded metadata.

Can this remove AI labels, SynthID, or platform records?

It can remove supported embedded generator parameters and certain C2PA structures. That does not erase pixel-level watermarks such as SynthID, remove labels held by a platform, or guarantee how a classifier will judge a file. Removing C2PA credentials also breaks the attached credential’s validation; keep any disclosures you are required to provide.

Why does a report say “Partially verified”?

The cleaner may retain orientation or a color profile so the image displays correctly. It also marks unfamiliar structures as unverified instead of assuming they are harmless. Read the retained and unverified sections before sharing; a partial result tells you there is more to review.

Is my photo uploaded, and do I need an account?

Image bytes, filenames, and metadata values stay in your browser during cleaning. You can start with the guest allowance; an account gives access to the signed-in allowance. Usage checks send the selected mode and byte count, with your session token when signed in, so the server can check the applicable limits.

Does deleting metadata hide everything personal in a picture?

Metadata removal only addresses supported embedded fields. A face, street sign, address label, screen, or reflection can still reveal personal details in the picture itself. Review the visible image too, and keep an original copy if you may need its capture or attribution information later.
